Tesselated PavementTesselated Pavement, Eaglehawk Neck, Tasmania, Australia. One of the best examples of a natural tesselated pavement is at Pirates Bay in Tasmania. It is a flat siltstone surface that is fractured into rectangles. Geologists are not entirely sure why the fractures are so regular, but salt-induced weathering explains their raised rims.
